The Giles County Chamber of Commerce is highlighting several upcoming events and ongoing initiatives as the organization continues work on tourism, leadership development and support for the local business community.
The Chamber’s next After Hours event is set for Tuesday, September 1, from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. at Kitchen 218 in Pulaski. The event, hosted with WKSR and Kitchen 218, will help kick off football season and the beginning of fall. Those attending will have an opportunity to network and socialize, with the Chamber also offering a complimentary drink.
Meanwhile, work is continuing on a new tourism strategy for Giles County. The Chamber recently spent several days with Tyler from Destination by Design, filming at locations around the county, including the wildflower field at Big Machine Distillery. Chamber officials say the project is getting closer to completion and is being designed to encourage more people to visit Giles County and to extend the amount of time visitors spend in the community.
The Chamber also reported a successful start to this year’s Leadership Giles program. Wolf Gap hosted the group’s first day, with Leadership Logistics helping lead orientation activities. Participants heard from State Representative Clay Doggett and the Giles County Historical Society before wrapping up the heritage-focused portion of the program by making butter by hand. The next session will focus on agriculture with UT Extension County Agent Wheeler McCullough.
Two longtime members of the local business community will also be celebrated as they prepare for retirement.
A retirement celebration honoring Elaine Hickman will be held Thursday, August 27, from 3 until 5 p.m. at Giles County Insurance, 112 South Second Street in Pulaski.
The Chamber will then host a retirement reception for Carol Wade on Friday, August 28, from 1:30 until 5:30 p.m. at the Giles County Chamber office, 110 North Second Street in Pulaski. Wade is being recognized for 52 years of service.
The Chamber is also reminding members about available business resources, including appointments with Chamber CEO Jessie and Tennessee Small Business Development Consultant Galen, along with planning resources available through the Chamber’s website.
