LAWRENCEBURG, TN — Lawrence County Fire Rescue volunteers responded to 11 emergency calls on Saturday, July 18, including eight motor vehicle crashes, two high-priority medical calls and a residential fire alarm.
Two of the vehicle crashes involved occupants who were pinned or trapped inside their vehicles. Another crash required a technical rescue response because of difficult terrain at the scene.
Fire rescue personnel were called to multiple emergencies at the same time on three separate occasions throughout the day.
Members of the department’s technical rescue team had gathered Saturday for an eight-hour training session. Because the team was already assembled, its members were able to respond immediately when the difficult-terrain rescue call was received.
All 11 incidents were handled primarily by Lawrence County Fire Rescue volunteers, as the department does not have paid staffing during weekends or overnight hours. The Lawrenceburg Fire Department also provided mutual aid at two of the incidents.
Department leaders praised the volunteers for their commitment to serving the community.
“Their dedication and training made a positive difference in several emergency situations,” the department said. “Our organization was established by volunteers, and volunteers continue to be the driving force of our organization.”
