- Community Rallies Around Local UNA Student Battling Rare Blood Disorder -

FLORENCE, Ala. - The Shoals community is rallying around 19-year-old University of North Alabama student Adyn Hagan as he battles severe aplastic anemia, a rare and life-threatening bone marrow failure disorder.

Adyn’s bone marrow is not producing enough red blood cells, white blood cells or platelets, leaving him dependent on blood and platelet transfusions and especially vulnerable to infection and bleeding. His treatment includes a bone marrow transplant and an extended stay at UAB lasting a few months for both treatment and recovery.

Adyn and his family are also receiving support from Jagger’s Journey, an organization created in memory of Jagger George, who battled the same illness.

Those wishing to help are also asked to keep Adyn and his family in their prayers. Anyone able to donate blood or platelets is encouraged to visit the LifeSouth Community Blood Center in Florence and donate for Adyn.

A benefit fund has also been established at Bank Independent to help the Hagan family with expenses related to Adyn’s medical procedures, transplant, and hospitalization. Donors do not have to be Bank Independent customers. Donations can be made by contacting any Bank Independent location or mailing a donation to:
