PULASKI, TN — Southern Tennessee Regional Health System–Pulaski has announced the reopening of Southern Tennessee Surgical Services with the addition of experienced general surgeon Dr. Derrick B. Galapon.
Galapon is expected to begin seeing patients at the Pulaski clinic near the end of September. He will provide general surgery, advanced laparoscopic procedures, endoscopy and wound care services for adult and geriatric patients.
Southern Tennessee Surgical Services is located at 1255 E. College St., Suite 400, in Pulaski.
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Galapon to our team and to once again offer dedicated general surgical services through our Pulaski clinic,” STRHS–Pulaski Chief Executive Officer Jason Fugleberg said. “Having full-time general surgery available locally is an important part of our commitment to providing high-quality care close to home.”
Galapon has decades of surgical experience and specializes in hernia repair, appendectomies, gallbladder surgery, laparoscopic procedures, upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, breast biopsies, lumpectomies and the treatment of skin and soft-tissue conditions.
He also provides abscess drainage, wound debridement and other forms of general surgical care.
Galapon earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland. He previously earned a bachelor’s degree in molecular biology from Vanderbilt University.
He completed his general surgery internship and residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Galapon served for more than 15 years in the United States Army, holding several medical and surgical positions, including flight surgeon, staff general surgeon and chief of general surgery. Following his military service, he continued practicing general surgery in Tennessee.
“Dr. Galapon brings an impressive background and a wealth of experience that will be a tremendous asset to our patients and our community,” Fugleberg said.
Outside of medicine, Galapon enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking, kayaking and traveling. He and his wife, Trish, also enjoy spending time with their dog, Bobo.
