COLUMBIA, TN — A Maury County jury has convicted Nathanial Pipkin of multiple murder charges in connection with the 2021 shooting deaths of three members of his family, including his 11-year-old sister.
District Attorney General Brent Cooper announced Saturday that the jury found Pipkin guilty of three counts of first-degree premeditated murder, two counts of felony murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder and employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
The charges stemmed from an October 1, 2021, shooting in Maury County that claimed the lives of Pipkin’s mother, brother and 11-year-old sister. Another family member was the intended victim of the attempted murder charge.
Authorities arrested Pipkin approximately three hours after the shootings near Monteagle, more than 100 miles from the crime scene. Investigators said he was wearing ballistic body armor and had multiple firearms inside his vehicle when he was taken into custody.
The jury is scheduled to return to court at 9 a.m. Monday, August 3, to begin hearing evidence in the sentencing phase of the trial.
Cooper said prosecutors from the 22nd Judicial District Attorney General’s Office are seeking the death penalty.
