MURFREESBORO, TN — Lawrence County Emergency Medical Services personnel recently attended a statewide conference focused on improving education, leadership and clinical training within Tennessee’s emergency medical services community.
Lawrence County EMS Assistant Director CC-Paramedic/Instructor Coordinator Kane Watkins and CC-Paramedic/Instructor Coordinator Susan Daughtry represented the department at the Tennessee EMS Education Association Conference in Murfreesboro.
The annual TEMSEA Conference brings EMS educators from across Tennessee together to strengthen their teaching abilities, refresh clinical knowledge, examine emerging technologies and connect with other professionals involved in EMS education.
This year’s conference included training and presentations on Tennessee’s new mental health curriculum, the use of artificial intelligence and other technology in EMS education, methods for supporting students and the state’s new ventilator curriculum. Attendees also discussed numerous other issues affecting EMS instruction and provider development.
Conference participation provides required updates for state-endorsed instructor coordinators, helping them maintain their credentials while remaining current on changes in emergency medicine and education.
Lawrence County EMS officials said the conference allows its instructors to return home with new knowledge, resources and teaching strategies that can be shared with personnel throughout the department.
During the conference, Assistant Director Watkins also participated in a beta course for Tennessee’s new leadership program designed for frontline EMS supervisors. Participants evaluated the program and provided feedback before it is introduced to EMS supervisors across the state.
Lawrence County EMS said continuing education involves more than maintaining professional certifications.
“It’s about continuing to grow, so we can better prepare our providers and better serve our community,” the department stated.
The department also expressed appreciation to the Tennessee EMS Education Association’s board members and volunteers for their work organizing the annual conference.
