Lewis County Government Awarded $500,000 Historical Development Grant

HOHENWALD, TN – From Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner – Lewis County Government received a wonderful Christmas present last week from the State of Tennessee in the form of a $500,000 Historical Development Grant.

The grant will be used to rehabilitate and replace the aging windows in the historic Lewis County Courthouse, which was originally built under President Franklin Roosevelt’s Administration back in 1939.

Lisa Cross, Infrastructure Director at the South Central Tennessee Development District, wrote and facilitated the grant, and was assisted by Lewis County Chief Operating Officer Houston Hamblin.

70% of the grant will be funded by the state, with the remaining 30% match coming from the county.

The courthouse is a vital landmark in Hohenwald, and has long stood as a symbol of the community’s rich history. However, the windows of the courthouse are showing signs of wear and age, and have become increasingly difficult to maintain.

Thankfully, this grant funding will allow the county to preserve the courthouse’s architectural heritage, while enhancing energy efficiency and aesthetics.

This funding will allow us to make much-needed improvements to the courthouse windows, while preserving its historical significance for future generations. The new windows will not only enhance the building’s beauty, but also help us save energy and reduce operational costs.

I really appreciate our State Senator Dr. Joey Hensley, and our State Representative Jody Barret for supporting funding for the Historical Development Grant in the General Assembly, and for their ongoing partnership in helping the county improve its infrastructure.
