LAWRENCEBURG, TN – Numerous residents of Southern Middle Tennessee and North Alabama reported hearing a loud explosion or booming sound late Saturday afternoon. The noise occurred at approximately 4:37 PM and was heard across a number of counties in the area. Early speculation into the source of the matter was believed to be a dentation of tannerite or a possible car crash. Others believed the sound to be that of a sonic boom that was generated by a passing supersonic aircraft. A thick cloud base obscured a clear few of the sky during the incident however it’s likely the clouds, from an approaching storm system, contributed to amplifying the noise.
