Early-Morning Garage Fire Spreads to Lawrence County Home; Residents Escape Uninjured

LEOMA, TN — Lawrence County Fire Rescue crews were able to prevent an early-morning fire from causing extensive damage to a home Wednesday after flames spread from a detached garage to the nearby residence.

Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 2:11 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, to a reported structure fire in the Crossroads Fire District.

According to Lawrence County Fire Rescue, the homeowners awakened to find their detached garage heavily involved in flames. During the initial 911 call, the residents reported that the fire was threatening their home, which was located approximately 10 feet from the burning garage.

LCFR units arrived on the scene in less than 10 minutes and found the detached garage fully involved, with the fire already extending to the residence.

The occupants had safely evacuated before firefighters arrived.

Crews immediately concentrated suppression efforts on the home and were able to quickly stop the flames from spreading further before turning their attention to extinguishing the garage fire.

Officials said the coordinated response prevented enough damage to the residence that the homeowners were not displaced as a result of the fire.

No injuries were reported.

Responding units included Crossroads Tanker 20 and Engine 11, Center Point Tanker 20, Leoma Tanker 20 and Director 1.
