LAWRENCEBURG, TN — The Lawrence County Roads Department is asking motorists to use caution as road construction gets underway on several county roads this week.
Crews will be conducting roadway work on Rabbit Town Road, Fairview Road and New Hope Road during the week of August 31.
Drivers traveling through these areas should watch for road crews and construction equipment and be prepared for possible delays while work is underway. Motorists are encouraged to slow down and use extra caution when approaching and traveling through active work zones.
County officials are also reminding drivers of Tennessee’s Move Over Law. Under Tennessee Code Annotated § 55-8-132, motorists approaching law enforcement, emergency vehicles, work crews or stationary vehicles displaying flashing, hazard or emergency lights are required to move into an adjacent lane away from the stopped vehicle when it is safe to do so.
When changing lanes is not possible or would be unsafe because of traffic or roadway conditions, drivers are required to significantly reduce their speed and proceed with caution.
Motorists are asked to remain alert, watch for workers and equipment, and allow additional travel time in the affected areas.
The Lawrence County Roads Department thanked the public for its patience and cooperation as crews work to complete the roadway improvements.
