PULASKI, TN — A veteran Giles County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been placed on administrative leave following allegations involving the euthanization of two dogs.
According to a statement released by the Giles County Sheriff’s Office, officials became aware Thursday morning of what Sheriff Joe Purvis described as “disturbing allegations” circulating on social media regarding the deputy’s conduct.
Purvis said he has requested that the District Attorney’s Office conduct an immediate investigation into the matter.
“I am as disturbed as you are to hear these allegations involving the conduct of a Giles County Deputy,” Purvis said. “I have placed the involved deputy on administrative leave and requested that the District Attorney’s Office launch an immediate investigation into this matter.”
The Sheriff’s Office has not publicly identified the deputy or released additional details surrounding the alleged euthanization of the two dogs.
Officials said the decision to place the deputy on administrative leave and seek an independent investigation reflects the seriousness of the allegations. The Sheriff’s Office said it takes both the treatment of animals and allegations of employee misconduct seriously.
Purvis acknowledged that members of the public have questions about what occurred but said additional information is limited while the investigation remains underway.
“Because this matter is now under investigation, I cannot comment on every detail,” Purvis said. “However, I will provide additional information when I am able to do so without compromising the integrity of the investigation.”
The Sheriff’s Office said it remains committed to accountability and transparency and is asking the public to allow the investigative process to proceed before drawing conclusions about the allegations.
Anyone with information or concerns regarding possible misconduct by an employee of the Giles County Sheriff’s Office is encouraged to contact the department.
