LAWRENCEBURG, TN — The Lawrenceburg City Council will consider several zoning changes, the proposed purchase of the Tennessee National Guard Armory property, new police vehicles and other items when members meet Thursday morning.
The council meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, August 13. The agenda includes public comments, mayoral announcements, Lawrenceburg Utility Systems financials for May, a city administrator update and department manager reports before the council moves into old and new business.
One of the first major items will be a public hearing on Ordinance 1458, which is scheduled for second reading. The ordinance would repeal and replace several sections of Lawrenceburg’s zoning ordinance and add two additional sections.
Council members will also consider the first reading of Ordinance 1459, a rezoning request involving approximately 13.31 acres owned by Hill Construction, LLC. The vacant property is located along the north side of West Point Road and east side of U.S. Highway 64.
The property is currently zoned R-2 Low Density Residential, with developers requesting a change to R-4 High Density Residential. According to the agenda, the rezoning would allow the property to be developed into smaller single-family residential lots as a development known as Trinity Cove. The Lawrenceburg Planning Commission has given the request a positive recommendation.
Another significant rezoning proposal involves the property known as Gimlet Park at 196 Gimlet Road.
Under Ordinance 1460, 4 Gilliam Properties, LLC is requesting that approximately 53.74 acres be rezoned from R-2 Low Density Residential to R-3 Medium Density Residential. The agenda states the change is intended to allow smaller lots and greater residential density, specifically for a triplex subdivision. The ordinance is scheduled for first reading.
Council members will also consider Ordinance 1461, which would amend an existing city ordinance by adding exceptions to portions of the municipal code related to the International Residential Code. That measure is also scheduled for first reading.
Several resolutions are also included on Thursday’s agenda.
One would authorize an agreement between the City of Lawrenceburg and the State of Tennessee to install a kiosk at 25 Public Square.
The council will consider reappointing John Ferguson and Clint Evers to the Lawrenceburg Board of Zoning Appeals. Both appointments would carry terms expiring June 30, 2030.
Another resolution would authorize the purchase of the Tennessee National Guard Armory property, while a separate resolution would approve the purchase of two 2025 Ford Explorer police units from Lonnie Cobb Ford of Henderson, Tennessee, through a state contract.
Additional announcements or business may also be addressed before the meeting adjourns.
