COLUMBIA, TN — Seven people were involved in a head-on collision Saturday afternoon on Pulaski Highway near the Giles County line, according to the Maury County Fire Department.
The crash was reported around 2:56 p.m. Saturday, August 8. Maury County Fire Department Engine 23, Rescue 21 and Deputy 20 were dispatched to the scene.
When crews arrived, they found one occupant trapped inside a vehicle and six additional occupants from the other vehicle involved in the crash. Firefighters quickly began triaging those involved and assessing their injuries.
Rescue 21 crews worked to free the trapped driver, removing a door and performing a dash roll to create enough space for the patient to be extricated.
The Maury County Fire Department credited Maury Regional EMS personnel with providing advanced medical care during the extrication process. Other EMS crews worked to rapidly treat and transport several patients from the scene.
Fire officials also thanked a bystander who stopped and assisted with the trapped occupant.
After all patients had been transported, crews worked to reopen Pulaski Highway. Rescue 21 rigged one of the damaged vehicles that was blocking the roadway to a staff vehicle and pulled it out of the travel lanes.
According to the fire department, traffic backed up approximately one mile in both directions while emergency personnel worked the scene.
The extent of the injuries sustained by those involved was not immediately released.
