LAWRENCEBURG, TN — David Morgan won the Lawrence County executive race Thursday night, defeating independent challenger Shane Eaton as voters also selected a sheriff, county commissioners and constables.
With all 24 precincts reporting, Morgan received 5,088 votes, or 61.79% of ballots cast in the county executive contest. Eaton received 3,114 votes, or 37.81%, while 33 write-in votes were recorded. Morgan’s margin of victory was 1,974 votes.
Republican John Myers won the Lawrence County sheriff’s race with 4,363 votes, or 52%. Independent Chris Hannah finished second with 2,325 votes, or 27.71%, followed by independent Gary Mills with 1,695 votes, or 20.20%. Seven write-in votes were recorded.
Several contested Lawrence County Commission races were also decided Thursday:
- District 1: Wayne Yocom defeated Dustin Stutts, 282–271.
- District 3: Dennis “Denny” Gillespie defeated Nick Cheek, 335–153.
- District 4: Steve Hagan defeated Allen Price, 323–191.
- District 5: Blake Grooms defeated Jaden Williams, 365–111.
- District 6: Chris Sutherland defeated Joey Peters, 262–192.
- District 12: Angie Jacobs defeated Anthony Washburn, 260–170.
- District 13: Ray Brazier defeated Dave Ray, 311–260.
- District 14: Sandy Newton defeated Cam Benefield, 228–168.
In the Southern District constable race, where voters could select three candidates, Randy Tucker led the field with 1,892 votes. Blake Barnett received 1,415 votes and Tony Lancaster received 686, securing the three available positions. Brad Honn finished with 644 votes.
The final report showed 8,615 ballots cast, including 4,980 Election Day votes, 3,571 walk-in early votes and 64 paper absentee ballots. Voter turnout was reported at 30.62% among Lawrence County’s 28,131 registered voters.
