Loretto Woman to Mark 27th Birthday with Community Blood Drive

LORETTO, TN — Abby Prince is turning her 27th birthday into an opportunity to help others by hosting a community blood drive Saturday, August 29, at American Legion Post 146 in Loretto.

The LifeSouth Community Blood Centers drive will be held from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at 2906 Highway 43 South.

Prince said donating blood has always been important to her, but this year’s event carries special meaning because of her family’s experience with leukemia and the lifesaving need for blood transfusions.

Her grandfather, whom she calls “Paw,” was recently diagnosed with a form of leukemia and has required blood transfusions. Prince’s great-aunt, her grandfather’s sister, also battled leukemia and received blood almost daily—sometimes several times a day—before her death.

Prince’s great-aunt died on Prince’s birthday, inspiring her to use this year’s celebration to honor her memory while helping patients and families facing similar circumstances.

The event will also feature a food truck, giveaways and a food drive. Organizers will also collect support for Bo’s Blessings.

Residents are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance through LifeSouth, although donor availability and participation requirements are determined by the blood center.

Prince said she hopes the birthday blood drive will bring the community together and make a meaningful difference for those who depend on donated blood.
