High Winds Down Numerous Trees In Southern Lawrence County

LAWRENCEBUG, TN — Strong thunderstorms producing straight-line winds downed numerous trees and power lines across southern Lawrence County on Thursday evening.

Storms entered Lawrence County shortly after 8:00 p.m., with reports of wind damage developing across the southern portion of the county.  At one point, over 500 Lawrenceburg Utility System customers were without power.

Near St. Joseph, a lean-to porch cover was blown into U.S. Highway 43, partially blocking the roadway.

On Jones Chapel Road east of Rabbit Trail Road, a downed power line caused a small field fire. Responders arriving in the area discovered numerous trees down farther east along Jones Chapel Road and began clearing operations to restore access.

The Lawrence County Highway Department also cleared numerous trees from roadways in the Liberty Grove area.

Emergency crews continued working Thursday evening to clear roadways, address downed power lines, and assess storm damage throughout the affected areas.

Responding agencies included Lawrence County Fire and Rescue units, Lawrence County Highway Department, Lawrenceburg Utility Systems, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, and Lawrence County Emergency Management Agency.
