LAWRENCEBURG, TN — Members of the Lawrenceburg Rotary Club received a presentation on the history of Lawrenceburg Rotary Park and the longstanding relationship between the Rotary Club and the City of Lawrenceburg during the club’s regular meeting on Friday, July 31. Lawrenceburg Mayor Blake Lay, City Manager Dick McKinley, and Parks & Recreation Director Eric Shultz attended the meeting.
Rotarians Bill Phillips and John Beasley presented a historical overview of Rotary Park and its important role in the Lawrenceburg Rotary Club’s relationship with the City of Lawrenceburg.
The history of the park and the partnership surrounding it dates back to the founding of the Lawrenceburg Rotary Club in 1947 and 1950 purchase of land which is currently Lawrenceburg Rotary Park by City of Lawrenceburg with assistance from the Rotary Club.
The partnership has provided a foundation for the development and use of Rotary Park as a community recreational facility while strengthening the relationship between the Rotary Club and the City of Lawrenceburg.
Phillips and Beasley highlighted several important milestones in the development of the park and described how generations of Lawrenceburg Rotarians have contributed to its development and continued use by the community.
The longstanding partnership continues in 2026, with property acquisitions being pursued to facilitate the future construction of new gymnasium facilities at Rotary Park. The planned improvements represent another chapter in the ongoing history of cooperation between the Rotary Club, the City of Lawrenceburg.
The presentation emphasized that Rotary Park is more than a recreational facility—it represents decades of cooperation, community service and investment by organizations working together for the benefit of Lawrenceburg and Lawrence County.
